TO MY SOON-TO-BE DEPARTED

TO MY SOON-TO-BE DEPARTED

Wherever you go,
whatever you do,
whoever you meet,
there is only one thing
I want you to know
before you go:

I will never stop thinking about you,
for there never will be
another woman like you,
one that will care about me,
one that will be with me,
and one that will stay with me
through thick and thin,
all out or in,
even from the other side of life.

The love we have for each other
shall survive time itself.

HOME

HOME
– In memory of Senator Edward M. Kennedy

All has been done and said.
You are home now, Ted,
home with Bobby and Jack –
the brothers have your back.

WHEN TIM RUSSERT DIED

WHEN TIM RUSSERT DIED

The year was 2008.
The Celtics and Lakers
were playing in the finals
for the first time
in over twenty years.
Obama and McCain
were set to square off
over who would occupy
the White House.
And I was becoming
more involved in politics
than ever before.

And then came the news,
echoing through the radio speakers.
Didn’t I see that guy on television?
On NBC’s Meet The Press?
With Chris Matthews on Hardball?
Wasn’t he moderating the debates
back when Hillary was running?

Like Peter Jennings before,
just another good man
taken before his time,
just another reminder
that life is far too short
to be doing something
you wouldn’t be proud of.
