I SUPPORT THE DENTON, TEXAS CONFEDERATE MONUMENT

As much as it may upset African Americans and the people who support their ideas that anything that represents the Rebel Army of the Civil War, I have to state that anything dedicated the fallen soldiers of the fallen South as well as the Confederate flag is a part of American history.

I say this not to evoke anger among the black community. However, I do understand that views upon reading this blog will be divided, with some supporting my opinion, and those who will clearly object to my views favoring the conservation of the South. I, a Southern-born happen to own a Rebel flag, as do my parents (theirs with fellow Southerner Elvis Presley on the flag).

I do believe that the students of North Texas University circulating a petition to have the Confederate Monument removed from the Denton, Texas Downtown Square, which happens to contain two water fountains (one for whites, the other for blacks). Honestly, I consider that a reminder of what life used to be like during Segregation. I feel, without trying to evoke racism, that this too should be preserved. Therefore, I find that the attempts these students are making are baseless, though they are within their right to an opinion on this front. In my opinion, if a black person crosses path to this monument then they have the right to turn their head. They have their freedom. Black people don’t have to worry about being treated like “second-class citizens”, nor do they have to worry about someone yelling hate speech at them without the other person getting in some kind of trouble over it. Life has changed for the better, and it’s about time people should get over it.

I called the Texas Historical Commission:

The monument cannot be moved or altered because the monument is protected several different ways:

1)The State if Texas has a “Texas Historical County Protection Easement” which included the statue.

2)The statue falls under the classification of “State Archeological Landmark”.

3)The statue is recorded as a “Texas Landmark”.

4)The Statue is protected under Texas Protection Act, Chapter 442 Sec. 008

If for some reason the statue was to me moved or replaced the State of Texas was levy a fine of $1000.00 per day.

This information came directly from Austin.
